Product Detail:

When John Lomax met Rich Amerson in 1937 in Livingston, Alabama, he called him his “Prize Find.”  As a roustabout, section hand, preacher, mule skinner, well-digger and repository of hundreds of songs and tales, he was one of the most captivating people that Ruby Pickens Tartt introduced him to in Sumter County. It was Mrs. Tartt, Alabama’s iconic folklorist, who arranged the recording session in 1961 which captured the following stories and songs.

  • I hear a Train A-coming
  • Black Woman
  • I Feel the Love of Jesus
  • Didn’t You Hear My Lord Call?
  • Waiting on the Salvation of the Lord
  • Brother Terrapin
  • Bullfrog and Fox
  • Rich’s Hollow Tooth
  • Jesus Going to Make Up My Dying Bed
  • Wake Up Johah
  • I’m So Glad I Been Born Again
  • Dog Caught a Hog
  • The Draft Board
